One More Friend

One More Friend. Can you imagine your life with no friends? What would you do with your day? How would you get around? What would you do with your free time?

This year, there will be 300 international students at MTSU, almost 100 of them here for the first time. They are in a new culture, many of them without any friends or connections. They need someone to befriend them and make them feel welcome.

We are all busy. The short video above (you watched it, right?) points that out. We don't make light of all the work involved in being a college student. But, at the end of your time at MTSU, is a diploma all you want? What if you could have something more!

What it takes to make One More Friend: meeting someone from another culture and exchanging names and contact information, call or email them on a regular basis, find activities that you already do and invite them along, find out what thier needs are (shopping, studying, getting around) and find ways to meet those needs, you know, just like a real friend. So, in essence, just be you.

What is not involved in being friends with an international: they already speak great English (maybe better than you), so you don't need to learn another language, you don't need to be their butler, maid or chaiffeur.

Internationals are going to learn about American culture. They can either learn it from you or TV. Which is better? So, can't you find time to make One More Friend? Can't you make that friend an international?

If you'd like more information on where to meet internationals or how to be a better friend to one, use the contact page with "Friend" in the subject line. Include your name and phone number. We'll get back to you quickly and help you meet one of these great students so you can begin a friendship that stretches around the world.
